Shorter is a new small town with great potential for growth and development. Located strategically off of U.S. Interstate 85 and U.S. Highway 80 in Macon County, Alabama, Shorter is 20 minutes from downtown Montgomery and only 35 minutes from Auburn.

I am glad that you stopped by to learn more about our town. We have built this site with you in mind, and hope you find all you need to know about Shorter, Alabama.
For our existing citizens, this site provides useful information about new developments, meetings, and volunteer and membership opportunities. If you are a new resident, potential business developer, or visitor, you will find information about our Town’s history, master planning efforts, town departments, services and obtain local maps.
Shorter sits close to everywhere, yet is far enough from everything to ensure peace and tranquility from the hustle and bustle of more commercialized environments.
We are currently moving to develop a downtown in Shorter and invite you to claim your part of it. Shorter is a new small town with great potential for growth and development. In fact, one of Alabama’s ten environmental wonders, the Bartram Trail is located in the beautiful Tuskegee National Forest, fifteen minutes from the Town of Shorter. For the outdoor enthusiast, hiking, camping, fishing and hunting grounds can be found throughout the Shorter area. Shorter, home to several state historical sites, still boasts one of the best and longest stretches of the Old Federal Road, built in 1804.
This picture is of the Milstead Cotton Gin, one of the largest gins in the south. And it’s located in the neighboring community of Milstead. Farmers bring their cotton from across the south to gin their cotton near Shorter!
